Unloading Undeactivated MTUs Luminometer

Purpose

To explain the method for removing and deactivating MTUs from the Luminometer in the event of a failure.

Parts and Materials Required

Procedure

  1. Put on proper PPE.
  2. Power down the Panther System.
  3. Dispose of MTUClosedMulti-tube unit—Container used to process tests in the instrument. An MTU contains five separate reaction tubes. The MTU is moved through the instrument by the linear distributor and includes five tiplets for pipettiing to be used in the mag wash station. waste bag and replace with a new waste bag.
  4. Change Gloves
  5. Open the right and left side panel doors.
  6. Verify that both pipettor arms are up. Manually push them up if they are not.
  7. ClosedRemove the Luminometer injectors by unscrewing the two screws that secure the injectors to the luminometer module.

  8. Place the injectors securely in the injector slot on the TCRClosedTarget capture reagent—An assay-specific reagent added as part of specimen pipetting. module.
    Note—Older style TCR modules will not have this place holder. In that case, place injectors on an absorbent pad or wrap it with an absorbent towel.
  9. Unlock the Mid Bay drawers (left and right side) and pull the Mid Bay all the way out.
  10. ClosedRemove the 10 screws located on top of the Luminometer cover.

  11. Carefully lift the cover off the Luminometer and rest the cover on top of a blue pad to the side of the Luminometer to allow access to the MTU.
  12. ClosedTo open the door, use a long hex screw driver and apply pressure to the locking mechanism and push it downward, this will open the Luminometer door.

  13. ClosedSlide the transport drive mechanism to the right.

  14. ClosedSlide the MTU out of the Luminometer one tube at a time, dispensing bleach from a bleach bottle into each tube.

  15. ClosedSlide in the Mid Bay drawer and pull out the waster drawer and gently place the deactivated MTU into the waste drawer, being careful not to sill the contents of the MTU.

  16. Change gloves.
  17. Wait 15 minutes to ensure complete deactivation of the MTU and then remove waste bag and dispose in a bio-hazard waste container.
