Cleaning Tools
Scope
The purpose of this document is to provide the process for cleaning all tools before and after every service call.

Note—Before you service the system, wear clean gloves and remove all tools which you may need from the tool case. Close the case and set aside the tools of use. This helps prevent contamination of the tool case and the tools not used. |
Materials Required
- Proper PPE
- 2.5%–3.5% sodium hypochlorite solution
- Deionized water in a squirt bottle
- 70% ethanol in a squirt bottle
- Lab wipes, paper towels, swabs
- Forceps
- Biohazard waste container
Difficulty Level and Approximate Time Required
- Approximately 10–15 minutes
Cleaning Procedure
- After servicing the system, remove gloves and discard in a biohazard waste container.

Put on clean gloves. - Spread out clean toweling.
- Saturate two lab wipes with 2.5%–3.5% sodium hypochlorite solution.
- Pick up each tool with one wipe. Thoroughly wipe it with the other wipe.
- Place each tool on clean towels as you finish with it. Allow to sit for one minute.
- After one minute, wipe each tool with a towel soaked in deionized water.
- Wipe each tool with 70% alcohol.
- Allow the tool to dry thoroughly.
- Discard wipes in a biohazard waste container and replace them as they dry out, become soiled, or deteriorate.
- Remove used gloves and discard in a biohazard waste container.

Put on clean gloves. - Put tools back in the case.
- Discard used towels in a biohazard waste container.
- Remove gloves and discard in a biohazard waste container.
- Wash hands thoroughly.
